Dopo l'8 Settembre 2011, Juventus - Notts County (devo ancora darmi i pizzicotti, è successo veramente?), sapevo che dovevo tornare di nuovo a Torino per vedere la Juventus giocare. Era la calda accoglienza deli abitanti di Torino e dei tifosi della Juventus che volevo provare di nuovo. I tifosi Juve ci ha fatto sentire speciali perché siamo tifosi del Notts County. Quindi, dopo aver parlato del viaggio di ritorno con mia moglie, abbiamo deciso di organizzare un viaggio per marzo 2012. Tuttavia, eravamo ad una trasferta del Notts County contro l'MK Dons, e parlammo con un altro tifoso, Malcolm Voce, delle nostre esperienze alla cerimonia di apertura dello Juventus Stadium e ci siamo subito resi conto che tutti e tre stavano pensando la stessa cosa . Malcolm aveva già guardato i voli per il 20 Novembre, una Domenica, il giorno dopo che il Notts avrebbe giocato ad Huddersfield Town. Abbiamo detto a Malc "Contaci, noi verremo con te". Abbiamo aspettato che scendessero i prezzi dei voli, andavano su e giù come uno yo-yo, ma abbiamo ottenuto un buon prezzo, alla fine. E ci costa £ 18.00 data e ritorno dall'aeroporto di Stansted (Londra) a Torino. Malcolm aveva prenotato per noi i biglietti per la partita Juventus-Palermo da ritirare presso la biglietteria dello stadio della Juve, cosa che ha tolto lo stress di tentare di comprare un biglietto dal sito Listicket. Abbiamo voluto sederci con i nostri amici italiani, tifosi della Juve, Giorgio, Luca e Domenico, e Malcolm è stato in grado di ottenere anche i loro biglietti. Malcolm aveva anche organizzato lo scambio della bandiera del Supporters Club con un gruppo di tifosi juventini. Con l'aiuto di Giorgio, che ci ha messi in contatto con un club di tifosi della Juventus di Milano, il Gruppo Madunina Milano.
Così il grande week-end è arrivato, Sabato 19 Novembre, un viaggio fino a Huddersfield Town per una partita di un campionato. Io e Lisa abbiamo incontrato Malcolm sugli spalti di Huddersfield e si era organizzato con fotografo residente a Nottingham, Dan Westwell, per avere una fotografia scattata in tribuna con la bandiera che avrebbe viaggiato con noi a Torino. Questa bandiera era stata fornita dal Notts County Supporters Club ed è stata realizzata appositamente per lo scambio con i tifosi bianconeri. La bandiera è stata portata sugli spalti di Huddersfield per fare molte fotografie con i tifosi. La partita iniziava con il Notts County in sesta posizione in League 1. Il Notts giocava bene ed a metà tempo era 0-0. Il primo minuto del secondo tempo, l'Huddersfield ha segnato il primo gol e alla fine il Notts ha perso 2-1, con l'eroe della squadra, Neal Bishop, a segno per noi.
Così il nostro viaggio di ritorno era un misto di delusione e di eccitazione, delusione per la perdita, eccitazione perché in 8 ore saremmo stati sulla strada per l'altro nostro stadio di casa, Juventus! All'1:00 del mattino di Domenica 20 Novembre, eravamo fuori dal letto e ci preparavamo per incontrare Malcolm. Il tempo passava in fretta e siamo stati ben presto sulla strada per l'aeroporto di Stansted (a tre ore di viaggio da Nottingham) in una fitta nebbia. Eravamo seduti nella sala delle partenze alle 04:30 e, con molto disgusto da parte di Lisa, con una pinta di birra e un boccone da mangiare. Ripensavamo alla partite del Notts County del giorno precedente e parlavamo con entusiasmo per ciò che sarebbe potuto accadere, oggi con la partita tra Juventus e Palermo. Il volo è partito da Stansted in tempo e l'unica cosa visibile attraverso la fitta nebbia è stata la sommità di Canary Wharf. Siamo arrivati all'aeroporto di Caselle e siamo stati accolti da Giorgio, che è stato così gentile da portarci al nostro albergo a Torino. Dopo un rapido cambio di abiti per indossare le nostre famose strisce bianche e nere, Giorgio ci ha portato allo stadio dove abbiamo incontrato Luca e Domenico e abbiamo preso i nostri biglietti. Mentre aspettavamo che la biglietteria aprisse, siamo stati accolti con calore dai tifosi bianconeri ed è stata l'occasione per Malcolm di dare a Giorgio e Luca una busta marrone. Questo dono erano delle fotografie autografate dei giocatori preferiti di Giorgio e Luca giocatori e dell'allenatore (Neal Bishop, Lee Hughes e Martin Allen).
Abbiamo scattato un sacco di foto scattate in giro per lo stadio della Juventus con la bandiera dell'amicizia e abbiamo incontrato i sostenitori di Milano al di fuori dell'Area 12, nei pressi del luogo che sarà il museo Juventus. Ci sono stati tanti sorrisi, strette di mano e foto in bianco e nero insieme.
Abbiamo colto l'occasione per dare un'occhiata allo Juve Store incredibilmente occupato e, mentre camminavamo, non abbiamo potuto fare a meno di notare che la gente ci guardava e potevamo sentire le parole "Notts County. Abbondano strette di mano e "grazie per i nostri colori" . Ci ha reso molto orgogliosi.
Ci siamo messi d'accordo per scambiare la bandiera dopo la partita, al di fuori della zona dei musei, così siamo entrati nello stadio. Mi sentivo come la prima volta l'8 settembre, eravamo tornati a casa.
Altre fotografie con i fan e la bandiera e non appena abbiamo preso i nostri posti a sedere, un ragazzo si avvicina a noi e chiede: "Ti piace lo stadio?", abbiamo risposto "Certo, è incredibile". Ha detto con orgoglio "Mio padre ha collaborato per costruire questo stadio". Si poteva vedere l'orgoglio in faccia quando ce lo ha detto e il suo volto ha mostrato un sorriso sempre più grande quando gli abbiamo dato un gagliardetto, una maglietta e una sciarpa del Notts County. Abbiamo regalato molte magliette e sciarpe ai tifosi della Juventus attorno a noi e li hanno accettato prontamente e con gratitudine. Speriamo che terranno come simbolo della nostra storia unita.
L'accoglienza da parte dei tifosi Juve era calda come la prima volta, ma tutti si concentrano ora per i 90 minuti davanti a noi - la partita ha preso il via - FORZA JUVE!
La partita è stata un testa a testa con Buffon che sfodera qualche eccellente parata ma la Juve quel giorno era troppo forte e hanno vinto 3-0. Ci siamo sentiti come le mascotte porta fortuna.
Lisa, Malcolm e io abbiamo fatto il tifo Juve e siamo saltati fuori dalle nostre sedie per tutti e 3 i gol. Sembrava che la Juventus fosse la nostra squadra per quei 90 minuti. Lo stile di gioco tra la difesa a quattro e il centrocampo era lo stesso del Notts. Io ho detto "It's just like watching County!!" E Malcolm si mise a ridere e disse: "Sì, lo è".
Dopo la partita, siamo tornati all'Area 12 per incontrare i ragazzi da Milano. Abbiamo avuto un colloquio finale, strette di mano e abbracci, molto rispetto reciproco tra i tifosi. Poi la bandiera è stata consegnata. Igor ha detto che ci manderanno una bandiera dei tifosi della Juve - una bandiera speciale realizzata apposta. Ci siamo salutati e Giorgio e Luca ci hanno riportati al nostro albergo.
Ci siamo salutati e con impegno genuino e sentito ci siamo detti che non sarebbe stato il nostro ultimo incontro.
Il giorno dopo era una giornata di visite. E 'stata una lunga giornata, scandita da caffè per Lisa e birra per noi. Abbiamo visitato la chiesa con la Sindone di Torino, una gita in barca sul fiume Po, abbiamo pranzato in un ristorante chiamato Roberto e acquistato cioccolatini per l'albero di Natale da portare a casa. Un piccolo pezzo del famoso cioccolato torinese - una vera delizia.
In serata, abbiamo lasciato l'albergo per la nostra cena finale a Torino, abbiamo superato alcuni tifosi della Juventus per la strada. Passandogli davanti abbiamo scambiato il solito "Forza Juve". A quel punto abbiamo notato le giacche, che avevano l'immagine della Torre Eiffel, ci siamo fermati per scambiare due parole con loro e subito ci siamo resi conto che erano francesi e rappresentavano il ramo parigino di tifosi bianconeri. Con il nostro pessimo francese e il loro inglese stentato, siamo riusciti a spiegare che eravamo sostenitori Notts County, calorose strette di mano. Uno dei sostenitori francesi tornò di corsa in albergo, mentre eravamo rimasti a parlare con Pascal, il presidente del Club parigino. Che personaggio, ha sicuramente la passione per la Juventus, ma è chiaro che sa come divertirsi e passare il tempo. Poi arriva l'altro tifosi e con orgoglio ci ha mostrato due riviste di tifosi del club parigino. Gli abbiamo detto che speriamo di vederli a Meadow Lane nel 2012, ci hanno risposto che sarebbero venuti e siamo scambiati affettuosi saluti.
Passeggiando in giro per Torino, abbiamo trovato un bel ristorante e offriva un ottimo pasto con abbondante vino. Un po' stanchi, la mattina seguente abbiamo preso il bus per l'aeroporto, fatto il chek-in in sala partenze e in un batter d'occhio si erano seduti in aereo. 30 minuti dopo eravamo ancora seduti sull'aereo, e un annuncio diceva di sbarcare perchè si era perso la possibilità di partire. Torniamo al terminale dove siamo stati per altre cinque ore! Nel terminal, mentre la noia avanzava, ho colto l'occasione per sfogliare la rivista parigina e, con mio grande stupore, c'era una pagina intera sul Notts County e la partita amichevole che abbiamo giocato l'8 settembre.
A causa del ritardo la compagnia aerea ci ha dato un buono di 5 euro per un pasto, questo significava il che il volo di ritorno ci è costato solo £ 4,50.
Alla fine il nostro volo è atterrato in UK.
Ripensandoci è stato un weekend fantastico, non abbiamo dormito molto, ma abbiamo fatto due giorni interi di "Black and White Army". Abbiamo visto sia il Notts che la Juve giocare nei rispettivi campionati in un solo weekend.

After September 8th 2011, Juventus vs Notts County (still have to pinch myself, did that really happen?), I knew that I had to return to Turin to see Juventus play again. It was the warm welcome from the people of Turin and the Juventus fans that I wanted to experience again. The Juve fans made us feel special because we are Notts County fans. So having talked about the return trip with my wife, we decided to plan a trip for March 2012. However, we were at a Notts County away match against MK Dons, that we spoke to another Notts fan, Malcolm Voce about our experiences at the opening ceremony on the 8th September 2011 and we soon realised that all three of us were thinking the same thing. Malcolm had already looked at flights for November the 20th, a Sunday, the day after Notts played away at Huddersfield Town. We said to Malc “Count us in, we will come with you”. We waited for the price of the flights to come down, they were up and down like a yo yo, but we got a good price in the end. It cost us £18.00 return from Stansted airport (London) to Turin. Malcolm had arranged for us to get our match tickets for Juventus V Palermo from the ticket office at the Juve ground, which removed the stress from trying to get a ticket from LISticket website. We wanted to sit with our Italian friends, Juve fans, Giorgio, Luca and Domenico, and Malcolm was able to get their tickets too. Malcolm had also arranged a Supporters club flag exchange with Juve fans. With the help from Giorgio, he linked us up with a Juventus supporters club from Milan, Gruppo Juventus Madunina Milano.
So the big weekend arrived, Saturday the 19th November, a trip up to Huddersfield Town for a league one match. Lisa and I met Malcolm in the stand at Huddersfield and had arranged with Notts resident photographer, Dan Westwell, to have a photograph taken in the stands with the flag that would be travelling to Turin with us. This flag had been provided by Notts County Supporters Club and was made especially for the exchange with Juventus fans. The flag was passed around the stand at Huddersfield to get as many fans in photographs with it as possible. The game kicked off with Notts County sat in 6th position in the league 1 table. Notts played well and at half time it was 0-0. Within the first minute of the second half, Huddersfield scored their first goal and Notts ended up losing 2-1, with Notts County hero, Neal Bishop scoring for Notts County.
So our trip home was a mixture of disappointment and excitement, disappointment with the loss, excitement because in 8 hours time we would be on our way to our other home ground, Juventus!! At 1.00am in the morning of Sunday the 20th November, we were out of bed and getting ready to meet Malcolm, time passed by quickly and we were soon on our way to Stansted airport (a three hour journey from Nottingham) in thick fog. We were sat in the departure lounge at 4.30am and much to Lisa’s disgust, having a pint of beer and a bite to eat. We reflected back on the Notts match the day before and talked with excitement about what might happen, today with the match between Juventus and Palermo. The flight left Stansted on time and the only thing visible through the thick fog was the top of Canary Wharf. We arrived at Caselle Airport and greeted by Giorgio who was kind enough to take us to our hotel in Turin. After a quick change into our famous black and white stripes, Giorgio drove us to the Stadium where we met Luca and Domenico and collect our tickets. Whilst we waited for the ticket office to open, we were greeted with warmth by other Juve fans and it provided the opportunity for Malcolm to give Giorgio and Luca a brown envelope. This gift was autographed photographs of Giorgio and Luca’s favourite players and the manager, Neal Bishop, Lee Hughes and Martin Allen.
We had plenty of photos taken around the Juventus stadium with the friendship flag and met the supporters from Milan outside area 12, near the place that will be the Juventus museum. There were many smiles, handshakes and photo opportunities- black and white together.
We took the opportunity to look in the incredibly busy Juventus store and as we walked around, we couldn’t help but notice that we were being pointed at and hearing the words “Notts County”, handshakes abound and “thank you for our colours”. It made us very proud.
Arrangements were made to swap the flag after the game, outside the museum area, so into the stadium we went. It felt like the first time on September the 8th, we had come home.
More photographs with fans and the flag and as we took our seats, a young boy approached us and said “Do you like the stadium” to which we replied “Of course, it is amazing”. He said with pride “My dad helped build this stadium”. You could see the pride in his face when he told us and an ever larger smile shone when we gave him a Notts County pendant, T-shirt and scarf. We handed many t shirts and scarves around the Juventus fans around us and they accepted them readily and with thanks. Hopefully, memorabilia that they will keep as a symbol of our united history.
The welcome we were given from the Juve fans was just as warm as before, but all focus now was for the 90 minutes ahead of us – the game had kicked off – FORZA JUVE!!
The game was end to end with Buffon making some excellent saves, but Juve on the day were too good and they won 3-0. We felt like the lucky mascots.
Lisa, Malcolm and I cheered Juve and leapt out of our seats for all 3 goals. It felt like Juventus was our team for those 90 minutes. The style of play across that back four and mid field was the same as at Notts. I said “It’s just like watching County!!” at which Malcolm laughed and said “It is”.
After the game, we went back to area 12 to meet the guys from Milan. We had a final conversation, handshakes and hugs, indeed, lot’s of respect for each other between the fans. Then the flag was handed over. Igor said that they would return a Juve supporters flag to us – one to be specially made. We said our goodbyes and Giorgio and Luca drove us back to our hotel. We said our goodbyes and with genuine and heartfelt commitment said it would not be our last meeting.
The next day was a day of sight seeking. It was a long day, broken up by coffee for Lisa and beer for us. We ensured that we visited the church with the Shroud of Turin, a boat trip on the River Po, took lunch in a restaurant called Roberto’s and purchased Christmas tree chocolates to take home. A little piece of famous Turin chocolate at Christmas – a real treat
In the evening, we left the hotel for our final evening meal in Turin; we walked past some Juventus fans in the street. As we walked past the usual “Forza Juve” was exchanged. At that point we noticed their jackets, which had an image of the Eiffel Tower, we stopped to have a conversation with them and soon realised that they were French and represented the Parisian branch of Juventus supporters. Through our very poor French and their broken English, we managed to explain that we were Notts County supporters, warm handshakes prevailed. One of the French supporters ran back to his hotel, whilst we were left talking to Pascal, the president of the Parisian supporters club. What a character, he definitely had passion for Juventus, but clearly know how to enjoy himself and have a good time. The other supporter eventually arrived back and proudly presented us with two supporters’ magazines from the Parisian supporters club. We said we hoped to see them at Meadow Lane in 2012 to which they said they would come and we said our fond farewells.
Whilst walking around Turin, we found a nice restaurant and had a great meal with plenty of wine. Slightly tired and a little worse for wear, the next morning we caught the shuttle bus back to the airport, checked into the departure lounge and in what seemed no time at all we were sat on the plane. 30 minutes later we were still sat on the plane, and an announcement came that we had to disembark as we had missed our flight slot. So back into the terminal we went for another five hours!!! In the terminal, boredom setting in, I took the opportunity to look through the Parisian magazine, and to my amazement there was a whole page of writing on Notts County and the friendly match we played on September 8th.
Due to the delay the airline gave us a voucher for 5 euros for a meal, this meant the return flight cost us £4.50 in total.
Eventually our flight did take off back to the UK.
Looking back it was a fantastic weekend, not much sleep, but we did, two whole days of “Black and White army”. We saw Notts and Juve play in their respective leagues over one weekend.
